No. 2-16/PCC/PWM(2O16)/2017 . _ Whereas, almost 9% to 12% of municipal waste contain plastic in different forms: It is toxic as well as potential public health hazards_ Safe disposal of non-Biodegradable plastic is a major challenge in both urban and rural areas. Common problems associated with unsafe disposal of plastic waste are choking the drains, release of toxic gases upon open incineration and insanitary condition. Whereas, the Union Territory of Andaman" & Nicobar Islands has unique geographical features about 87% of the total land area is forests, which is extremely rich in bio-diversity and highly ecologically sensitive. Pollution especially caused by plastic wastes is major threat to it.
