No. 34-725/2018-Rev_ Whereas, in order to acquire land for a public purpose, Social Impact Assessment is essential under Section 4 of the newly promulgated Land Acquisition Act namely, "the Right to Falr Compensation and Transparency In Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013" which came into effect since 01.01,2014. And, whereas, the Social Welfare Department under the A & N Administration is the appropriate department dealing with Social issues and is an expert agency for better observations of facts and legal points involved in this matter. Now, in exercise of powers conferred by clause (1) & (2) of Rule 4 of "the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Social Impact Assessment and Consent) Rules, 2014" read with the Notification vide No SO 1997(E), dated 23.06.2017 of the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi, 1, Admiral (Retd.) D.K Joshi; Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands do hereby notify to designate the Social Welfare Department under the A & N Administration to be the Soclal Impact Assessment Unit to conduct the Assessment study required for all projects of Land Acquisitions except for Social Welfare Department to be undertaken by the A & N Administration under "the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013" with immediate effect: Admiral DK: Josh
