Whereas both the Houses of the state legislature are not in session and His Excellency the Governor of Karnataka is satisfied that the circumstances exist which render it necessary for him to take immediate action, further to amend the Karnataka Police Act, 1963 (Karnataka Act 4 of 1964) for the purposes hereinafter appearing; Now, therefore in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 213 of the Constitution of India, His Excellency the Governor of Karnataka is pleased to promulgate the following Ordinance, namely:- Short title, extent and commencement.- (1) This Ordinance may be called the Karnataka Police (Amendment) Ordinance, 2012. It extends to the whole of the State of Karnataka. It shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. Substitution of section 6.- In the Karnataka Police Act, 1963 (Karnataka Act 4 of 1964) (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), for section 6, the following shall be substituted, namely:- "6.
