THE WATER (PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF POLLUTION) RULES, 1975 (As amended to date) THE WATER (PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF POLLUTION) RULES; 1975 [Dated the 27th February, 1975] I[G.S.R 58(E).-In exercise of the powers conferred by section 63 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act; 1974 (6 of 1974) the Central Government after consultations with H[Central Pollution Control Board], hereby makes the following rules, namely: - CHAPTER 1 PRELIMINARY 1. SHORT TITLE AND COMMENCEMENT: 1) These rules may be called the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Rules, 1975. (2) They shall come into force o the date of their publication in the Official Gazette. 2. DEFINITIONS. In these rules unless the context otherwise requires: Act' means the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act; 1974 (b) "Chairman" means the Chairman of the Central Board; C) "Central Board Laboratory' means laboratory established or recognised as such under sub-section (3) of section 16; (d) "Central Water Laboratory' means laboratory established or specified as such under sub-section ([) of section 51; 'Form means a form set out in Schedule I; Source: Gazette of India, Extraordinary, 1975,Pt: Il-Section 3, sub-section (i_ Page 293_ Substituted by Act 53 of the 1988, Section 2_ 48 The Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Rules; 1975 "Member" means Chairman thereof; member of the Central Board and includes the "Member-Secretary' means the Member-Secretary of the Central Board; (h) "Section' means a section of the Act; "Schedule" means a schedule appended to these rules; "Year means the financial year commencing on the first day of April.
