318 THE GAZETTE OF 'INDIA: EXTRAORDNNARY (PARtIISec30)1 MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND FUBLIC DISTRIBUTTON (DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS) NOI7CATTION New_Delhl; the;7th February 2011 G.S.R. 71(E) ~ In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-sectlon (1) read with clauses (c) (6), (h) (0) and (s) of sub-sextion (2) of-sectlon 52 of The Legal Metrology Act 2009, (1of 2010), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules, namely CHAPTER I PREUIMINARY 1, Shorttitle and commencement (1) These rules may be called the Legal Metrology (General) Rules; 2011. (2) They' shall come into force on the 1* day of April, 2011. 2 Definitions In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires; (a) "Act" means the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 (1 of Z010); (b) "Schedule" means a Schedule appended to these rules; (c) "Sectlon" means a Section of the Act; (d) words and expressions used in these rules and not defined but defined In the Act shall have the meanings respectively assigned to them In the Act; CHAPTER II SPECIFICATIONS OF STANDARDS OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES 3, Reference standards (1) Every reference standard weight shall conform, as regards denomination, material used in construction; and deslgn; to the specifications laid down In Part I of First Schedule: (2) The maxlmum permissible error In respect of any reference standard weight, on verlfication Or re-verification after adjustment, shall be such as is specified in Part I of First Schedule: (3) Every reference standard metre bar shall conform; as regards materlal used in construction, and deslgn, to the specifcatlons laid down in Part II of First Schedule: (4) The maxlmum permissible error in respect of any reference standard metre bar; on verification or re-verification, shall be such &s Is specified in Part II o
