The Jharkhand Motor Vehicles Rules, 2001 (Corrected by Memo No. 15817 dated 23.9.1993) G.S.R. 44, dated the 5th December, 1992. - In exercise of the powers conferred by Sections 28, 38, 65, 95, 96, 107, 111, 138, 159, 176 and 211 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Act 59 of 1988). The Government of Bihar is pleased to formulate the following Bihar Motor Vehicle Rules, 1992, having got no suggestions as to the previously published notification through G.S.R. No. 28, dated 6th July, 1992. (Adopted in Jharkhand vide Transport and Civil Aviation Department Notification no.274/Ranchi, Dated 23.01.2002) Chapter-I Preliminary 1. Short title, application and commencement. – (i) These Rules may be called the Jharkhand Motor Vehicles Rules, 2001. (ii) They shall come into force at once. (iii) They shall, save as otherwise expressly provided, apply to, and in relation to, all motor vehicles in the State of Jharkhand. Definition. - In these Rules, unless, the context otherwise requires. - (a) 'Act' means the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (59 of 1988). (b) 'Rule' means the Jharkhand Motor Vehicles Rules, 2001. (c) 'Section' means a section of the Act. (d) 'Passenger' means any person travelling in a public service vehicle other than the driver or the conductor or an employee of the permit holder while on duty.
