TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT NOTIFICATION Delhi , the 20th April , 2011 No . F. F. 19(95yTpt./Sectt./2010/04.—Whereas , it has been observed that emergency vehicles such as Fire Brigade vehicles , Ambulances , Police Patrol Vans and vehicles of Transport Department , Government of NCT of Delhi are not being provided free passage by other categories of motor vehicles while these emergency vehicles are being driven to prevent damage to the public or to attend to any emergency situation(s) . Whereas it is imperative for these emergency vehicles to reach their destination in time in the interest of public order , safety and security and to ensure free passage to these emergency vehicles . Therefore , in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 115 read with clause (41) of Section 2 of the Motor Vehicles Act , 1988 (59 of 1988) , the Lieutenant Governor of ·: ·: - \ : · : -.: · · ' · · ·' · -' ' · . -:-·'·-- -i . .;_.. '· ' . -· . . .-· r · ' , .. . i , · ' . the National Capital Territory of Delhi , on being satisfied that it is necessary to ensure the uninterrupted movement of Emergency Vehicles such as Ambulances , Fire Engines , Police Patrol Vans and vehicles of Transport Department , Government of NCT of Delhi and in the interest of safety of the general public in Delhi/New Delhi areas , does hereby , order that the extreme right lane on roads having three or more lanes will be used by emergency vehicles like Fire Brigades , Ambulances , PCR Vans or vehicles of Transport Department , Government of NCT of Delhi while they are attending emergencies . These emergency vehicles when using the extreme right hand lanes in emergency indicated by a siren and flashing of lights will have the overriding right of way
