CHAPTER VIII MPHIL DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY [Act S.5 (1) & (2)] Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M,PHIL./Ph.D Degrees as per UGC Regulation, 2016 SL.No Content items 1_ Short title, Application and Commencement: Recommendations 1.1. These Regulations may be called University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of MPhil./Ph.D. Degrees) Adopted. Regulations, 2016. 1.2 They shall apply to every University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act, or a State Act , every affiliated college, and every Institution Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956. 1.3 They shall come into force from the date oftheir publication in the Gazette of India. Eligibility criteria for admission to the M.Phil. programme: 2 2.1 Candidates for admission to the M.Phil. programme shall have a Master's Adopted for all M.Phil programmes degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master' s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority,established or incorporated under a law in its home_country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
