GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT West Bengal Act VIII of 1982 THE WEST BENGAL PUBLIC LIBRA RIES (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1982. [Passed by the West Bengal Legislature:] [Assent of the Governor was first publis} hed in the Calcutta Gazette, Extraordinary of the I2th October; 1982.] [Z2th October; 1982.] An Act to amend the West Bengal Public Libraries Act, 1979. West Ben. ActXXXIX of 1979_ WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the West Bengal Public Libraries Act, 1979, for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted in the Thirty-third Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows: 1. (1) This Act may be called the West Bengal Public Libraries Short title and (Amendment) Act, 1982 commence ment_ (2) This section and section 6 shall come into force at once; and the ramaining provisions of this Act shall be deemed to have come into force on the ISth day of July, 1982. 2. In section 2 of the West Bengal Public Libraries Act; 1979 arsecdonzt hereinafter referred to as the principal Act) of" West Ben_ (1) after clause (a), the following clause shall be inserted: Aci979XIX '(aa) "Calcutta Metropolitan Library" means the District Library in Calcutta declared by the State Government as such; (2) after clause (b), the following clause shall be inserted: '(bb) "Corporation means the Corporation of Calcutta aS constituted under the Calcutta Municipal Act, 1951;" (3) in clause (c) for the words Public Libraries" the words "Library Services" shall be substituted; (4) for clause (d) , the following clause shall be substituted: '(d) "district" means a district of West Bengal and includes Calcutta as defined in the Calcutta Municipal Act, 1951;' ; West Ben.
