(1) The Managing Director or the General Manager as the case may be, or any other officer of the Nigam or a Jal Sansthan authorised by it by general or special order in that behalf may, either before or after institution of the proceedings, compound any offence punishable under this Act on such terms, including payment of composition fee as he may think fit.

87. (1) The Managing Director or the General Manager as the case may be, or any other officer of the Nigam or a Jal Sansthan authorised by it by general or special order in that behalf may, either before or after institution of the proceedings, compound any offence punishable under this Act on such terms, including payment of composition fee as he may think fit. (2) Where an offence has been compounded, the offender, if in custody, shall be discharged and no further proceedings shall be taken against him in respect of the offence so compounded.
