R 64/P: 4. 19/94/S. 139/94 ~ In exercise of the pow €Is con- ferred by section 139 of the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994 (Punjab Act No. 19 of 1994), the Governor of Punjab , after consultation with the State Election Commission, is pleased to make the following rules to regulate the registration of electors and conduct of elections in muni- cipalities in the State of Punjab: PART Preliminary 1. (D) These rules may be called the the Punjab Municipal Elec- tion Rules, 1994. 2) These rules shall come into force from the date of their publica- cation in the official Gazette: Short title and commencement 2 (I) In these rules unless the context otherwise requires; Definitions. (a) <Agent" means any person appointed, in writing, by & candi date at an1 election to be his Agent for the purpose of these rules, with the acceptance, in writing; by such person of the office of such Agent; (p) Backward Classes means castes_ races or classes declared as Backward Classes by the State Government from time to time; (c) {District Electoral Officer means the District Electorel CIf:((1, appointed under section 14 of the Act; "Election' means the election of a mamber of a Munlcipality from an area delimited as a constituency for the purposesof election to that Munic pality; (e) "Election Commissiion' or *Commission" means the State Election Commission; sahlished under section 3 of' the Act; <Form means form appended to these rules ; "Act means the Punjab State Election Commission Act, 1994; (h) "Presiding Officer and #Polling_ Officer" mean the Pre- siding Oflicer Jand Polling Officer; appointed under 510 PUNJAB GOVT: GAZ ES
