Sub: Procurement of energy efficient electrical appliances. Sir, I have been directed to refer to the subject cited above and to say that energy is the most critical element for economic development and its availability has to be ensured on sustainable basis. In recent times, the demand of energy is growing manifold, whereas the energy sources are becoming scarce and costlier. As such efficient use of energy and its conservation has a great importance and it is important to reduce the consumption of energy. The Govt. of India, Ministry of Finance in consultations with the Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) have issued instructions to all Ministries/ Department and their subordinate offices that while procuring appliances indicted below, they should ensure that they carry the threshold BEE Star Rating indicated against them, or higher and the threshold ratings have been finalized based on a life cycle cost analysis carried out by BEE:A The Government of Punjab after carefu 3. The Government of Punjab after careful consideration has decided to adopt these threshold star ratings of these appliances while these are procured by the Administrative Departments/ Departments and their sub offices of the Government of Punjab. It is made clear that the provisions of Punjab Financial Rules/Instructions will apply mutatis mutandis on the procurement of these appliances as heretofore.
