West Ben. Act II of 1966. GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL LEGISLATIVE DEPARTMENT West Bengal Act XLV of 1976 THE CALCUTTA UNIVERSITY (SECOND AMENDMENT) ACT, 1976. [Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.] [Assent of the Governor was first published in the Calcutta Gazette, Extraordinary, of the 5th November, 1976.] [5th November, 1976.] An Act to amend the Calcutta University Act, 1966. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Calcutta University Act, 1966, for the purpose and in the manner hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted in the Twenty-seventh Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:- 1. This Act may be called the Calcutta University (Amendment) Short title. Act, 1976. 2. In section 8 of the Calcutta University Act, 1966 (hereinafter referred to as the said Act), for sub-section (I), the following sub-sections shall be substituted, namely:— "(1) The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor in consultation with the Minister from a panel of not less than three persons recommended by a Committee constituted for the purpose in the manner set forth in sub-section (IA): Provided that no person shall· be included in the panel without his consent. (1A) The Committee referred to in sub-section (1) shall consist of five persons of whom two shall be nominees of the Syndicate, one shall be a nominee of the Academic Council, one shall be a nominee of the Chairman of the University Grants Commission and one shall be a nominee of the Chancellor who shall act as the Chairman of the Committee. (1B) The Committee shall hold its meetings in accordance with such directions as may be issued by the Chancellor from time to time. (IC) If the Chancellor does not approve of the persons included in the panel he may call for a fresh panel. Amendmen
