West Ben. Act XXXIV of 1994. West Ben. Ord. VII of 1994. GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL LAW DEPARTMENT Legislative West Bengal Act VIII of 1995 THE WEST BENGAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1995. [Passed by the West Bengal Legislature.] [Assent of the Governor was first published in the Calcutta Gazette, Extraordinary, of the 17th April, 1995.] [17th April, 1995.] An Act to amend the West Bengal Municipal Elections Act, 1994. WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the West Bengal Municipal Elections Act, 1994, for the purpose and in the manner hereinafter appearing; It is hereby enacted in the Forty-sixth Year of the Republic of India, by the Legislature of West Bengal, as follows:- 1. (1) This Act may be called the West Bengal Municipal Elections (Amendment) Act, 1995. (2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 2nd day of December, 1994. 2. In the West Bengal Municipal Elections Act, 1994 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act}, after section 29, the following section shall be inserted:— "Qualifications for membership of a Municipality. 29A. A person shall not be qualified for being chosen to fill a seat in a Municipality unless,— (a) in the case of a seat reserved for the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes, such person is a member of the Scheduled Castes or the Scheduled Tribes, as the case may be, and is an elector in relation to that Municipality; (b) in the case of a seat reserved for a woman, such person is a woman, and is an elector in relation to that Municipality; (c) in the case of any other seat, such person is an elector in relation to that Municipality.". 3. (1) The West Bengal Municipal Elections (Amendment) Ordinance, 1994, is hereby repealed. (2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or any action taken under the principal Act as
