HIGHER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Madam Cama Marg, Hutatma Rajguru Chowk, Mantralaya, Mumbai 400 032, dated the 10th October 2018 NOTIFICATION MAHARASHTRA PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES ACT, 2016. No.Parini. 2018/C.R.85/Vishi-2.— In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (10) of section 72 read with sub-section (5) of section 71 of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016 (Mah. VI of 2017), the Government of Maharashtra hereby, prescribes the following Uniform Statute relating to Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Academic Distinctions, namely :— UNIFORM STATUTE No. 3 OF 2018. Short title and commencement.—This Statute may be called the Maharashtra Public Universities (Conferment of Honorary Degrees and Academic Distinctions) Uniform Statute, 2018. Honorary degrees and Academic Distinctions.— (1) The University may confer not more than two honorary degrees or academic distinctions per year, in the fields of science, technology, social science, law, physical sciences, art, literature, etc. The Honorary degrees or academic distinctions shall be conferred at the convocation of the University. Procedure for Conferment of Honorary degrees or Academic Distinctions.— (1) The Vice Chancellor may forward, along with his recommendations, the nominations for conferment of Honorary degrees or Academic distinctions to the Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor shall present the nominations recommended by the Chancellor for conferment of Honorary degrees or Academic distinctions to the Management Council. The Management Council may consider and recommend to the Senate the conferment of an Honorary degree or Academic distinction without requiring him to undergo any test or examination or evaluation, on the ground solely that he, by reason of his eminent position, attainments and pRule TOC
