It has been noticed while inspecting the registration units of births and deaths in differeni part of Ihe country that in several places, the' terms "Infant Deaths" and "Maternal Deaths" are being misunderstood by some of the Aegistrars , while forwarding Ihe 'Summary Monthly Report of Dealhs' in Form No. 12 alongwith the stalistical pait of Death Reporting Form. It has been observed lhat deaths up to Ihe age of live years are treated as infant deaths in many cases. While in case of maternal deaths most of the (emale deaths are shown under thls column, irrespective of the age ol Ihe deceased, In this conneclion il is requested Ihal clear cut instructions may be issued to all the Dlstrict Registrars/Registrars of your state that 'Deaths ol children less than one year old' only be counted as infant deaths. In case of Maternal Death the following may be noted; The death of a mother during pregnancy or labour or wilhin 42 days (slx weeks) after deliveryltermination of pregnancy which are known to be definltely caused by conditions arising out of pregnancy and child birth shall only be included a8 maternal death; It i8 therefore , requested Ihat specillc instructions may bo issued to the Registrars/District Registrars to check Ihe enfries while forwarding form No. 12 along with statistical part of the Reporting Forms therefore accurate data on these indicators may be obtained: It may be noted that once this compllation h
