SHORT TITLE AND COMMENCEMENT: These Rul‘es may be catled the Tripura Panchayats (Constitution of State Panchayat (i) Election Commission) (Third Amendment) Rules, 2006. (ii) They shall come into force on and from the date of their publication in the official Gazette. AMENDMENT OF RULE 3 : (i) In the Tripura Panchayats (Constitution of State Panchayat Election Commission) Rules, 1993 (hereinafter referred to as the Principat Rules} after Sub-Ruie (2) of Rule 3, the following proviso shall be added. namely :- "Provided that a person shall not be qualified for appointment as a State Election Commissioner, unless he holds or has hetd office of the rank of Principal Secretary or Commissioner or Secretary to the State Government". (ii) In the Principal Rules, in Rule 3, for Sub—Rule (3) the following Sub-Rule shall be substituted namely :- "The State Election Commissioner shall hold office for a term of 5 years from the date on which he enters upon his office ortitl he attains the age of 62 years. whichever is earlief'.
